Hate is a Strong Word
There are very few things in this world that I’m willing to say I hate (at least in serious conversation). I might joke that I hate spiders, Neil Diamond’s music, or even a particular President’s policies. But the list of things I genuinely hate is much shorter, including absolutely awful things like vomiting - and raising our rates. As a true local, small business, Kristin and I (and our small staff) don’t have the luxury of having thousands of members, spread across hundreds of locations, in multiple states, like a bigger company. So on the exceedingly rare occasion that we do adjust our pricing - it causes us great concern as to whether or not we might lose someone we care about (because we really do care).
How rarely have we adjusted our fees? Since opening for business in September 2007 - we’ve only raised rates across the board in August 2011, and January 2019 - until a few weeks ago. Three rate hikes in 15 years isn’t many, and I’m sure you all understand why (today’s 40-year-high rate of inflation), but I still don’t like it. In fact, I hate everything about it!
So please know that, from the depths of our hearts, we sincerely apologize for joining the long list of product producers and service providers increasing prices lately. But, the fact of the matter is that the cost of everything from food, to fuel, to clothing - and even just simply doing business - has gone up. Please know that that additional $5 per session (for at-the-gym training) remains below the rate of inflation. And, I hope you understand, that the additional increase for those of you whose houses we drive to (for in-home training) is simply to compensate for today’s record-high fuel prices.
We value you, your business, and your friendship more than I can express. So, please believe me when I promise to do everything possible to delay another adjustment for as many years into the future as I possibly can. And, in the meantime, know that Kristin, Steph, Vicki, and I all appreciate you sticking with us through these unfortunate times in which we all find ourselves.
Yours in health,
Robert M. Kennedy
