May Video Tip Clip: Undesk Your Body® - Free Quarantine Edition

Since COVID-19 effectively shut our country down and left millions of Americans to work from home in mid-March, businesses and individuals alike have been trying to help our communities in any way we still can. Here at Kennedy Fitness, that meant offering free fitness instruction. No, sadly we can’t provide unlimited, free personal training appointments…but what we have been doing is releasing brief Undesk Your Body® mini-clips on our “Workout Where You Work” Facebook page. Click above to watch a sample video, and click the links below, to scroll through all the other clips we’ve been sharing. (And please make sure to “like” our Workout Where You Work page while you’re there)!

How to Avoid Gaining the “COVID-19”

Last month I discussed the temporary closing of Common Ground and the potential that many of us (myself included) might be experiencing minor weight gain as we self-isolated. This month the gym is still closed, we’re still self-isolating, and so many people are gaining weight that much like the “freshman 15” folks now joke about gaining the “COVID 19!”

On the bright side, our parks have re-opened, and some states are discussing strategies to attempt a return to “normal.” But at the same time, we’re all being asked to wear masks if we go out in public…and there’s significant concern that we may be setting ourselves up for a second wave of illness by easing social distancing guidelines prematurely.

Of course, unless you live under a rock you already know all this. But did you know that multiple news sources are now reporting aerobic exercise may be extremely beneficial to reduce the severity of your symptoms, should you be unfortunate enough to contract the virus? Conveniently, aerobic exercise is also an efficient way to burn calories…and prevent that “COVID 19” weight gain!

So like I suggested last month, get out and run, walk, jog, or bicycle! The fresh air and sunshine will be good for your heart, lungs, skin, mood, and waistline! With the warmer temperatures, green grass, and budding trees, it’ll be even more enjoyable than the last time I gave this advice. And if you’re allergies start to give you trouble…you’ve probably even got a mask that can help with that!

Yours in health,

PS: We’re also available for online personal training! So if you’ve got a little fitness equipment at your house, and a device you can run FaceTime, Skype or Zoom on…there’s no reason why we even need to wait for the gym to open back up. So give us a shout today and let’s get started reshaping that quarantine body!

Egg-and-Hummus-Wrap-3-of-4-752x472.jpg

Egg and Hummus Breakfast Wrap

Ingredients

  • 1 whole grain tortilla (such as Ezekiel Sprouted Grain)

  • 1-2 tablespoons hummus

  • 1 large egg

  • 1/4 cup egg whites

  • 1/8 cup chopped yellow onion

  • 2 button mushrooms, sliced

  • 2 cups baby spinach

  • 1 tablespoon crumbled feta

  • 1 tablespoon chopped sun-dried tomatoes

Optional

  • Sea salt and fresh ground pepper, to taste

  • Hot sauce, for topping

Directions

Spray skillet with cooking spray and sauté onion and mushrooms for 3-4 minutes or until fragrant. Add spinach and sauté for a few minutes longer, until spinach has wilted.

Add egg and egg whites to pan with veggies and cook for about 2 minutes or until eggs are cooked through. While cooking sprinkle on a little sea salt and ground pepper.

Warm up the tortilla and the spread on a layer of hummus. Place the egg scramble in the center of the tortilla and top with sun-dried tomatoes and feta. Sprinkle on a little more salt and pepper as well as hot sauce, if using.

Wrap tortilla up and serve!
