June 2020 Newsletter

DISCLAIMER: This newsletter was written BEFORE any of the events now unfolding in Omaha (and across our country) began occurring. We are still releasing it, as scheduled, but we don’t want to appear tone-deaf to these events. It breaks our hearts to see and hear so much anger, so much property destruction…and so much senseless violence in our community. We should all love and respect each other…and the law. We pray that everyone remains safe tonight, and that we can all remember to “love thy neighbor” in the coming days.

Stay Safe. Stay Healthy.

June Video Tip Clip: Podcast Interview w/Robert Kennedy

It’s June 1st and although kids have been out of school for more than two months already, it’s now “officially” summer vacation! States are beginning to open back up for business, but life is still FAR from normal. So rather than the usual exercise tutorial, we thought we’d feature video of a podcast interview with Robert from a couple of weeks ago. Check it out to hear a bit more about what’s been going on behind the scenes here at Kennedy Fitness!

Speaking Very Frankly

Frankly, we need YOUR help. Being completely honest, 2019 was the best year Kennedy Fitness has had yet. We hired a new trainer (Brady) and a new Corporate Wellness Coordinator (Lisa) in the fall, and were planning to invest our profits into expanding the business in new and exciting ways this year. We even hired another brand new trainer, Troy Woods, on January 1st, 2020…and then COVID-19 hit!

After a strong start in January/February, Common Ground closed in mid-March…and our business dropped like a rock. Before we received our SBA Paycheck Protection Program loan on April 20th, we’d lost approximately 80% of our business…and March went down in our history books as the worst month we’ve had in the last 7 years! I’m pleased to report that since then, we’ve been able to convert more of our clients (including corporate clients) to online training, as we’ve worked hard and fast to adapt our business in new ways. And of course, we’ve been able to pay each of our employees their “average monthly wages” thanks to the PPP loan.

But the cold, hard reality is this: Our business is still down about 45%, our PPP loan expires in the next two weeks…and Mayor Stothert is warning that due to budget concerns, Omaha’s community centers (that means Common Ground) may remain closed until 2021! I’m not asking you to feel sorry for us. As soon as the gym closed, we put our mortgage on a forbearance plan, and since receiving our PPP loan, we’ve been setting that money aside in savings. What I AM ASKING though, is for YOU to help our trainers.

Even when the gym was open, a significant portion of our new business typically came from referrals. The rest of our new business typically came from web traffic to our websites and face-to-face contact at the gym. Now with the gym closed (and believe me, we’re doing everything we can to optimize our online presence), referrals are more important than ever! So for our amazing trainers, would you please think of just a few friends, relatives or co-workers that you could refer to us?

We’ve been very blessed over the years to work with such wonderful people (trainers and clients), and we want nothing more than to know our clients are healthy and happy…and their trainers are OK too! So yes, speaking very frankly, I’m respectfully asking for YOUR help. Will you please help me help them?
