April Video Tip Clip: Stay Home and Go Online!

No, this video isn’t about getting on social media. I imagine you’re probably doing more of that already! This month I’m here to chat for a minute about all the changes to life (and our business) since last month…and give you a peek at what online personal training looks like, and how it can help you FLATTEN the curve while not FATTENING your own curves!

Your Goals Vs. CoronaVirus

Life sure has changed a lot since last month’s newsletter! About two weeks after our March newsletter was released, Mayor Stothert closed all of Omaha’s community centers due to COVID-19. In the absence of our usual gym, our trainers quickly adapted by coming to their clients’ homes, and we began training more appointments at our private home studio. Just one week later, we already began to see these appointments decrease as social distancing efforts began to ramp up even further. So now we’re finding more and more of our clients opting for online training appointments (via FaceTime or Skype).

Life on semi-lock-down is certainly not conducive to fat loss. Personally I’ve even seen my weight trend up about two pounds now since the gym closed. Honestly, I’m eating a little worse since “stocking up” at Costco…but the real issue has been how much more sedentary I’ve been as I’ve hunkered down in my home office, trying to stay current with all the changes, and pro-actively adapting our business to what might be next!

That being said, I am still getting in 4 or 5 workouts per week for myself…and certainly feel better when I do! As long as we don’t receive a full-blown “shelter in place” directive, I highly recommend getting outside for a walk, jog or bike ride around your neighborhood. If we do receive that type of order, utilizing a staircase in your home could help burn some calories. Drinking a big glass of water before you eat will help fill your stomach and reduce how much you might eat at mealtimes. And of course, our caring and knowledgeable Certified Personal Trainers are here for you, via FaceTime for sure, and maybe even in-home training, to help you avoid fattening your curves while we flatten THE curve during this pandemic!

Yours in health,

Keto Walnut-Cashew Porridge

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup (35g) raw cashews

  • 1/4 cup (27g) walnuts

  • 1 cup (240ml) unsweetened almond milk

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

  • 2 tablespoons chia seeds

  • 1 medium apple, chopped

  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Directions

Soak the cashews and walnuts in cool water for at least 4 hours or overnight, then drain and rinse. Place the soaked nuts in a food processor and grind to a slightly chunky texture, then transfer to a small pot. Add almond milk and vanilla and place over low heat. Stir for about 5 minutes to soften and thicken the mixture. Stir in chia seeds and cook for another minute. Remove from heat. If desired, let cool and store, tightly covered, for up to four days, reheating as needed in the microwave. In a medium bowl, toss the chopped apple and cinnamon and serve porridge with apple pieces on top.
